California Chardonnay

San Pasqual, an Urban Winery

The San Pasqual Winery follows the newer trend among California Chardonnay producers to stop clobbering drinkers’ taste buds with oak, allowing more of the fruit to shine through. As a result, you get flavors of pear, golden apple and a hint of butterscotch. This method also imparts far less butter and oak, which is absolutely fine with me. It had a crisp lemon finish.

I also got a chance to try the 2014, which hasn’t been released. It is an equally beautiful expression of fruit forwardness.

2011 Melage de Blanc Viognier

Viognier from Leonesse Cellars

Wine review and rating for a white wine blend from Temecula Valley

2011 Melange de Blanc

Leonesse Cellars is on of my favorite wineries in the Temecula Valley.  Some serious wine aficionados may laugh when I say this winery produces some excellent wines.  But that’s only because they haven’t had the pleasure of sipping their offerings.  As the saying goes, “Don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it.”  You are missing out.

This is a Viognier/Grenache Blanc blend.  It’s very aromatic with flavors of white peach, apricot and pear.  It’s a wine you can drink with or without food. We tried it at the winery with lobster bisque.  Leonesse Cellars has a big tasting room with a separate wine room for special tastings, which need to be purchased in advance. You’ll love this wine come Spring/Summer. $24
